What We Believe

"The Lord was pleased to strengthen us, and remove all fear from us,
and disposed our hearts to be as useful as possible."

— Bishop Richard Allen

Our Foundation

At Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, our faith is rooted in the Holy Bible and centered on Jesus Christ. As a congregation of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, we embrace the historic Christian faith and are committed to proclaiming the Gospel, making disciples, serving our community, and living out God's love.

We believe that every person is created in the image of God and is invited into a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ.

We Believe....

The Bible

The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God. The Bible is our authority for faith, teaching, and daily living.

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." — Psalm 119:105

God

We believe in one eternal God who exists in three persons:
God the Father
God the Son (Jesus Christ)
God the Holy Spirit

The Trinity works together in perfect unity to create, redeem, and sustain all creation.

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior of the world.

Through His life, death on the cross, and resurrection, Jesus made salvation available to everyone who places their faith in Him.

He is Lord of all and will return again.

Salvation

We believe salvation is a free gift of God's grace.

It cannot be earned through good works but is received by faith in Jesus Christ. Through Him, we receive forgiveness, new life, and the promise of eternal life.

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit lives within every believer.

The Holy Spirit comforts, convicts, teaches, empowers, and equips us to live faithfully and to serve God and others.

The Church

We believe the Church is the Body of Christ.

God calls believers together for:
Worship
Prayer
Fellowship
Biblical teaching
Communion
Service
Evangelism

The Church exists to glorify God and share the Good News of Jesus Christ with the world.

Baptism & Holy Communion

We celebrate two sacraments instituted by Jesus Christ:

Holy Baptism
A sign of God's grace and our new life in Christ.

Holy Communion
A sacred remembrance of Christ's sacrifice and a celebration of His presence among His people.

Christian Living

We believe followers of Jesus are called to:
Love God wholeheartedly
Love our neighbors
Pursue holiness
Seek justice
Show mercy
Walk humbly with God
Serve those in need
Share the Gospel

Our faith is demonstrated not only by what we believe but by how we live.

Hope for Eternity

We believe Jesus Christ will return.

Those who trust in Him have the hope of eternal life, where we will live forever in God's presence.

This hope gives us strength, purpose, and peace today.
